After doing a lot of research into various dog breeds , their characteristics , as well taking into account Hayley and her partners life style, a Boston Terrier ‘ ticked all the boxes’ in a breed that should suit them well.
So, imagine how disappointing it was for them when their ‘perfect’ breed started showing aggression towards them and Kevin wasn’t ‘ just playing’.
Hayley contacted me when Kevin the Boston Terrier was 13 months old reporting that he could be fast asleep and one of them could walk into the room and Kevin would launch an attack on either one of them resulting in a nasty bruise or nip.
A home visit was required here and although Kevin seemed to be on his best behaviour during my visit. I do have a lot of experience with assertiveness in a dog and we put together a firm plan of action in order to change this behaviour.
Hayley very kindly gave me this recent update….
I contacted Tricia when I was at the end of my tether with my Boston Terrier who was being aggressive towards me. He wasn’t like it all the time, most of the time he was fun and loving, but there were instances where he would be asleep and all of a sudden he would lunge aggressively at me, sometimes resulting in a bite (I might be nowhere near him at the time).
I had him checked by my vet as initially I thought he was having some sort of seizure but when that came back negative I turned to Tricia…. and I’m very glad I did!
She came to my house and discussed everything with me, that alone made me feel 100 times better (!), and then she said that my dog was actually just trying to dominate me and gave me some practical things that I could do to improve the situation.
My dog is now considerably better than he was before. He is not the finished article yet, and we still have to work on him, but I am thrilled with his improvement. Tricia has been really good at giving me additional advice via email if the dog has any blips – giving me confidence to carry on with it. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Tricia, she has been a real gamer changer for us, and I will be using her again to work on his recall next!
