I recently had the great pleasure of volunteering myself and Bruce (the yellow Lab.)
to Dartmoor K9 search dogs.
Having previously spotted them at a local village fair and became aware that they were always wanting stooge dogs and owners to practice on. I thought what a better way to spend your day off than to take a drive up to Dartmoor with a four legged companion….go out and get lost….and pray these amazing Bloodhounds found you!!!
Of course it was a little more structured than blindly going out with a dog and getting lost and luckily for Bruce and myself it was a very rare hot sunny day on the moor. But what an amazing job these scent dogs do (Bloodhounds). And it would seem that a lot of dog owners in North, East and South Devon are unaware of this fantastic charity!!
Let’s face it we have all been there at some stage or another, you are walking the dog and one minute they are there in front of you and the next….gone!! Usually it’s only a matter of a couple of minutes and they return after the chase of a rabbit or squirrel has run it’s course. But to have the security in knowing that if ever the worse scenario happened and your dog did not return within a reasonable time, that you could contact this brilliant organisation and they would be at the location where you last saw your dog ….I think is a great peace of mind.
By the way…..Bruce and I went out on 2 hikes across the moor and were found each time by a lovely 2 year old female Bloodhound.
