Surely not!!
Nonetheless, a great article written in the Telegraph last month. Apparently more and more of dog owners, if having to make a choice between partner or dog, are choosing the latter!!
If you look at the human-dog relationship, which has evolved over 20,000 years, it is unique and unbelievably strong. Dogs are so finely tuned to us, they scan our faces to gauge our emotions and bond with us wholeheartedly, completely without judgement. Because of this, some of us are weighing up between the partner who wants to change you and makes you socialise on a Saturday night with dreary people you don’t like, and the dog that would far prefer to lounge on the sofa with you, blissfully silent apart from the occasional contented sigh, and our four legged friend is winning hands down.
It’s no wonder that couples these days wrangle so fiercely over canine custody in their divorce settlements. Hollywood actress Melanie Griffith has made her public intention to fight husband Antonio Banderas for custody of their 3 dogs as they are divorcing after 18 years of marriage. For just these reasons, the ‘pup-nup’ ( pre- nuptial agreement on the dog’s future) is also gaining popularity…. You might want to check that one out with your lawyer!!
So where does this leave us…? Dogs don’t deceive, they remain loyal and they don’t criticise. Owning a dog makes us healthier and widens our social circle. It would seem, it’s a win-win relationship.
