To own a dog that is renowned for being a good guard and not expect to hear any barking would be an impossibility!! But Nelly the 5 year old Schauzers barking was becoming more and more of a problem for her owner Hazel.
They had recently moved house and in their old property out in the country this barking was a bit of a nuisance but was not too much of a problem. Now they had moved nearer to the city with neighbours either side of their new home and Hazel was getting increasingly worried about Nellys barking, she was not just guarding her own property but guarding next door as well!! Also Nelly was getting increasingly anti-social when visitors came into the house, barking so you could not converse in conversation and also growling at visitors.
I visited Nelly at home to take a look at the problem first hand and was greeted by a very noisey, yappy, growly reception. We discussed our options to this un-wanted barking behaviour and devised a plan that l thought should be fairly sucsessful and the rest was up to Hazel to implement. Hazel emailed me recently and this is what she had to say:
“Hi Trish, Thank you for the help you gave me with Nelly and her irritating habit of barking at everyone who knocked at the door, even people she knew! I sensed that a lot of people didn’t like Nelly because of this . She now responds to my commands – and people seem to be more friendly towards her. We are all happy now thanks to you. “
