We are frequently being told by our veterinary surgeons to watch our dogs weight….and rightly so, as an obese dog can lead on to diabetes , heart disease and much more.
But recently l have encountered a few underweight dogs that clearly are hungry and NOT getting enough food!!
When l carefully mention this to the client, their response is often….Oh it’s the recommended amount on the back of the bag/ packet.
Please remember that this is only a recommended guideline and you have to take other factors into consideration.
Whether your dog is…
Very active or not?
Neutered or an Entire Male?
Age?
Keeping your dog slightly on the ” too lean” side also has its draw backs, in that it can contribute to certain behaviour problems.
So try and take other factors into account when feeding your dog and remember….it’s only a guideline!
