If you are the owner of more than one dog, have you ever wondered when out walking with your dogs, why they will always want to play, interact and run around at brake neck speed…..right under your feet?
On one particular occasion when out walking with 3 Lurchers with my husband, (in a 10 acre field!) all 3 dogs were off the lead running free having a glorious time, maybe about 25 meters away, they then suddenly about turned and started heading our way at a very fast speed, it was clear to see that even at this speed they were only focused on each other and not what they were heading for….us!
My husband pointed out if we stopped walking and stood still, the chances were they would veer off and go around us…they didn’t. They crashed straight into us, sending us both into the air and crashing flat out onto the soil. We both lay there winded and groaning while the dogs couldn’t understand why we had decided to take a break and lay down and proceeded to jump on top of us and lick us to death.
Why do dogs do this play activity right under your feet? Nothing more than you are part of their pack and they would love you to join in, they do not understand the possibility of broken bones or that we actually topple over very easily if rugby tackled in the right spot!!
