As a Canine Behavioirist/ Trainer a lot of my work does involve what I call the more “full on” type of problem behaviour work….aggression, fears/ phobias etc.
But interestingly I have noticed over the last year that I get a lot more phone calls/ emails from new dog owners wanting what I call my New Puppy Talk.
These talks can be very beneficial to first time dog owner, or a new dog/ puppy owner that has not owned a dog for a few years and realises,
like many things in life, tactics change and how we trained a dog in our Grandparents day….isn’t possibly the best way to train a dog now!!
As a family you have made the big decision to get a dog/ puppy, you might have even had to wait a few months to get a specific breed. You bring home this beautiful four legged bundle of fur and before you know it the children are crying, not wanting to sit at the tea table because this little furry bundle of joy has turned into a teeth snapping, cloth shredding Piranha!!
It is thought that up to10% of new puppies purchased by new owners end up going back to their breeders within the first year. And often a lot of these early “teething” problems can be sorted easily by a visit from myself explaining the behaviour, showing you how to manage it, as well setting up a plan to achieve a good balance between everyone.
These talks can address all these little puppy niggles in one visit and after making the monumental decision to bring a puppy into your family it can often be a devasting decision to have to take the puppy back..
